Early review of Crave the Night by Lara Adrian.

Note – I requested this book from Netgalley. The review is based on my honest opinion and solely my own.

Book twelve in The Midnight Breed Series; Crave the Night features Nathan and Jordana’s story.

Taken from his mother’s arms as a newborn and trained as a lethal killer by the now dead madman, Dragos, Nathan is solely focused on his role as a Breed warrior. That is until one kiss from Jordana Gates, a Darkhaven beauty, sends him reeling.

Jordana Gates has spent the last twenty-four years of her life fulfilling her father’s wishes. But she cannot dispel her attraction to the dangerous Breed warrior, Nathan.

Nathan and Jordana are opposites in every way but there is no denying the draw each feels to the other. With his tough as nails attitude and Jordana’s naiveté, the unlikely pair shed their natural tendencies to explore their desperate desires.

Nathan realizes that Jordana is the woman who can help him overcome the horrors that still haunt him while Jordana breaks the chains that have confined her from taking chances her entire life and gives in to her feelings for Nathan.

But just as the two find their way to each other, an enemy from the long-forgotten past comes charging into their lives with their sights set on Jordana.

The romance between Nathan and Jordana is formulaic where the typical alpha male with a tortured past and the unsure female still finding herself, uncertain about what she wants and scared to go after what she desires find their destiny together after a night or two of raw, unadulterated sex. This I’ve come to expect.

However, where the author shines is in her creativity. The latest twist comes in the form of the Atlanteans, an immortal race and the Breed’s sworn enemy. The history between the two races is dark and bloody and now, the queen of the Atlanteans is looking to fulfill her revenge and at the center of her twisted plot is Jordana.

Although the book centers around Nathan and Jordana’s love story, it is the sub-plot, the reigniting of the war between the Atlanteans and the Breed that had me completely glued.

The Atlanteans were first introduced in the Edge of Dawn but in Crave the Night, we learn about the history between the two races. We are also introduced Zael, a new character who I hope will be featured in upcoming books.

Lara Adrian is by far, one of my favorite paranormal romance authors for many reasons including her even writing style, plenty of romance with hot scenes in between the sheets, characters with a mission, intriguing plot twists and effective conflict.

I look forward to the next installment in the series. If you are looking for a new paranormal romance series, I recommend Lara Adrian’s The Midnight Breed. Although I suggest reading the books in order, it’s not necessary. My first foray into the world of The Breed warriors was with Midnight Rising, Rio and Dylan’s story. I then went back and read the books in order.

Enjoy the latest release by Lara Adrian, Crave the Night!

My rating: a 4-star must read!

About Lara

LA Goodreads

As a child, Lara Adrian used to sleep with the covers up around her neck, afraid she might become the midnight prey of deadly vampires. Later on, under the influence of Bram Stoker and Anne Rice, she had to wonder if her fear wasn’t actually something else: a secret desire to walk in a darker world, to live a dangerous and sensual dream with a man of seductive, preternatural power. It is that twining of fear and desire that fuels Lara’s own fantasies today, and the idea that she explores in her New York Times bestselling Midnight Breed series of vampire romance novels from Bantam Dell Books.

With an ancestry stretching back to the Mayflower and the court of King Henry VIII, Lara Adrian lives with her husband in coastal New England, surrounded by centuries-old graveyards, hip urban comforts, and the endless inspiration of the broody Atlantic Ocean.
