Veena: When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
Hilary: I can’t remember when I didn’t want to write.
Veena: Are you a plotter or pantser?
Hilary: Both. I totally try to plan things out and then end up working it out as I go. Depends on my mood I guess.
Veena: Who or what inspires you to write?
Hilary: My family, friends and the awesome fans who have totally gotten behind my books.
Veena: What is the most challenging thing for you about writing?
Hilary: It’s not always easy to find the time to do it. It is more of a hobby than a career (at the moment) and I have to fit it in to a very busy life!
Veena: Describe your book in 250 characters or less.
Hilary: Alexa is beautiful, independent and hard to resist for serially unattached Julian. Neither one is looking for a relationship, but their palpable chemistry and instant emotional connection is too strong to ignore.
For the first time in years, Julian wants more than just sex. He wants a relationship with Alexa, but it’s not that simple. Julian and Alexa are struggling with the intensity of this new relationship, and they also have to contend with Luke, Alexa’s best friend, whose tries to convince her that Julian is not the man for her.
Despite their affinity for each other, Alexa fears Julian will leave when he learns about her past and Julian is unsure he can love a woman who in so many ways remains a mystery, who keeps threatening to run, who can’t decide if she is going to STAY.
Veena: Where did you come up with the idea for your book?
Hilary: I lived in South Florida for years and haven’t seen it used as a setting before. I also have a Latino male lead that speaks Spanish. I tried to come up with a different approach. My book is pretty reality based and relatable, or so I have been told
Veena: What sort of research did you do for your book?
Hilary: LOL. Personal!
Veena: Who is a favorite protagonist? Why? Antagonist? Why? (your or any other book).
Hilary: I love all of my characters. They are strong, yet flawed and in no way perfect. They love hard and play hard and make mistakes along the way. I personally love Luke in my series. He gets a bad rap for some of his actions but people do crazy things in the name of love!
Veena: Who is your favorite author?
Hilary: I have so many but I love Alan Brennert and Jojo Moyes.
Veena: What are you reading now?
Hilary: Nothing. Isn’t that sad? I love to read but all of my free time is spent writing. The last book I read was Orange is the New Black though.
Veena: Where in the world would you most like to visit?
Hilary: Italy and Greece. I have plans to go there next summer for a big anniversary trip.
Veena: Which character in a book would you enjoy having drinks and dinner with?
Hilary: I’d have some drinks with Christian Grey.
Veena: If you could be any character in a book, who would you be and why?
Hilary: Allie in the Notebook. That’s a great love story!
Veena: What is on your nightstand?
Hilary: A water bottle, a blue plate shaped like a fish that holds my jewelry and a lamp.
Veena: What is your must have tech gadget?
Hilary: iPhone.. can’t live without it!
Veena: What’s your favorite junk-food?
Hilary: Anything with chocolate!

Set against the steamy and sultry world of South Beach, Florida, a modern romance unfolds in Stay.
Alexa is beautiful, independent and hard to resist for serially unattached Julian. Neither one is looking for a relationship, but their palpable chemistry and instant emotional connection is too strong to ignore. For the first time in years, Julian is interested in more than just sex. He wants a relationship with intoxicating Alexa, but it’s not that simple. Not only are Julian and Alexa struggling with the intensity of this new relationship, but they also have to contend with Luke, Alexa’s best friend, whose own love for her leaves him willing to do anything to convince her that Julian is not the man for her. Luke’s determination and Alexa’s secret past threaten to tear Julian and Alexa apart as she struggles to open her heart to love. Julian and Alexa embark upon a roller-coaster ride of emotional and physical passion that both pulls them apart and holds them together. Despite their affinity for each other, Alexa fears that Julian will leave when he learns about her past and Julian is unsure he can love a woman who in so many ways remains a mystery, a woman who keeps threatening to run, a woman who can’t decide if she is going to STAY.
Have you ever woken up one day and said, “Today’s the day I’m going to do (insert thing here)?” Well, I did, and the result is my first novel, Stay. I always thought of myself as a decent writer, and then a trip down memory lane through my ninth grade book of poetry confirmed it. I realize that I have always had a romantic side and a way with words. With support from my husband and kids (and an unspoken agreement to leave me alone for a few hours every night), I embarked on this incredible writing journey.
I’m originally from sunny Southern California and spent my summers in South Florida. I attended college at FSU and received my Masters in New Mexico. I finally settled in the Washington, DC area. My happy place has always been anywhere near the water.
When I’m not writing, I help run a business with my husband, watch an inordinate amount of sports (my kids play something 365 days a year), indulge my competitive spirit on the tennis court, and spend time with my awesome family and friends.
I am an avid reader, but find my characters feel neglected when I hang out with other author’s characters for too long. When I do read, historical fiction is my favorite genre. I love traveling and experiencing different cultures, places, and times.
I feel so blessed that my love of books inspired me to finally do something that I forgot I had always dreamed about doing.
My someday has arrived!
