Dallas, TX, July 29, 2014 – From Joss Whedon’s much-loved Firefly to Cowboys and Aliens and The Walking Dead, it seems that weird Westerns are forever circling the outer edges of pop culture. Here to fill a gap in the critically under-served “cowboys-and-fishmen fantasy” market is a brand-new epic fantasy Western series from debut author Arianne ‘Tex’ Thompson.
The premise of One Night in Sixes is simple: reliable ranch-hand Appaloosa Elim and his ambitious young partner, Sil Halfwick, are out to sell a herd of yearling horses. But when the sale falls through and Sil rabbits off to cut a deal on the black market, Elim is forced to follow him to the mysterious border town of Sixes – a strange, dangerous place where the ordinary heat of the day soon gives way to the gunslingers, shapeshifters, and shady characters who own the night. And what begins with Elim’s earnest intention to find Sil and get out of town culminates in a horrible accident that puts him on the hook for murder, and threatens to destroy the town’s fragile peace. Fans of George R.R. Martin’s intricate worldbuilding or the supernatural mystique of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series will find plenty to enjoy here.
“Clearly written and engaging.” Publishers Weekly
“Sixes is a tinderbox of a town with tensions just waiting to go off – and Sil and Elim provide the match to set the volatile town ablaze.” GCE Book Review
ONE NIGHT IN SIXES tears the covers off the Western and Fantasy genres and turns them into something that will grip you from the first page to the last.” Solaris
